Melissa Glass
Marketing Senior Manager, Holtzman Partners
Volunteer of the Month, July 2015
Where did you grow up?
For the most part – South Carolina (13 years). Before moving to Austin, I lived and worked in the Washington, DC area for nine years.
What is your volunteer role?
Currently – an ad-hoc volunteer perhaps? I was recently the VP of member retention – filling in mid-year for a vacant position. Prior to that I was on the social media committee, and helped secure a speaker for a SIG luncheon.
What is your day job?
I help Holtzman Partners, an Austin-based public accounting firm of 55+ people, explain our service offerings to prospective and current clients; promote our firm to job seekers, and keep team members connected through internal communications. I also head up our alumni and volunteer programs and assist with our health and wellness initiatives. On a regular basis, I’m either planning or writing editorial for the website and newsletters, drafting up client proposals, managing the design process for various projects or planning events.
Why did you join the AMA?
I learned about the organization when I was in college, and I found it to be a great way to create deeper relationships with other marketers. As a volunteer, it’s the perfect place to share my skills and grow them, as well.
What (or who) is your favorite marketing blog or thought leader?
I admire Don Schultz, “the father of IMC.” It’s because of him that my undergraduate and master’s programs came into existence. If it weren’t for his teachings, I’d probably be in a different profession.
Describe yourself in one word.
Interested.
(As in, people interest me – their stories, their jobs, why they think the way they do, etc.).
